How do I request copies of a court case.
Most court files are public record unless restricted by state statue or impounded by a court order. Request are NOT accepted over the phone. Should you need copies of court records, you can obtain them several ways:

- Sending an email with the information you're requesting to courtcopy@co.madison.il.us
- Downloading and completing the fillable form using this link to then email or mail to:

Document Storage / Record Search is located in the lower level of courthouse on 155 N. Main Street, Suite 11. Our hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

How do I get a copy of Marriage License / Birth Certificate / Death Certificate?
Requests for Birth Certificates, Death Certificates and Marriage License, are handled by the County Clerk's office. Use the button to be redirected to the County Clerk's webpage.

How do I find my case number?
Your Case number can be located at the top of your paperwork. A Madison County Case number will consist of a year- case type- number. (2022-TR-######) You may be able to find your case number online at our website or in person at the Madison County Circuit Clerk’s Office. Computers are set up for public access and viewing in the Records Division room 101.

When is my court date?
To see when your court date is scheduled or get more information on your case, you will go to Court Record Search . You may search by your name or by your case number. Once you find the case click on it and the Case Overview will be displayed.
You will find your Next/Last Court Date on this screen.
I can't make my court date. What should I do?
First, are you representing yourself? If yes, continue - if you have an attorney, they should handle as you cannot file a motion on your own.
Second, you should file your Motion to Continue in a timely manner.
Next, your case type will determine how you proceed. If your case number includes the following letters: DT, CM, DV, MT, TR, OV, CV, CL, QC, and CF, then you can use this link to learn more and submit an electronic form to request a continuance.
Finally, for all other case types that fall into our Civil (Small Claims, Evictions, Chancery, Foreclosure, etc.) division or a Family case (Divorce, Family, etc.) you will need to submit this version of the Motion To Continue. Upon completion, you can submit by doing one of the following:
- eFile the form through one of the Illinois recommended eFile vendors
- Bring the completed form to the Edwardsville Courthouse

I have received a traffic citation. How do I resolve my ticket?
If you have received a traffic citation, and the officer has marked the ticket Court required, you will need to appear in court at the designated time given to speak with the Prosecuting Attorney regarding your ticket(s).

What is the $36 Annual Child Support Service Fee?
The $36.00 annual Support Service Fee, that is assessed by Illinois State law on all Child Support cases, must still be paid to the Circuit Clerk’s office. Payment of your $36 annual Support Service Fee should be made with a separate payment to CIRCUIT CLERK.
Be sure to include your Case Number and Support Service Fee. You may pay by Credit Card online or by phone Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm calling 800-352-9870 reference Form CODE 138507.
The Circuit Clerk accepts personal checks, cashier’s checks, certified checks and money orders for Support Service Fee payments. Be sure to include your Case Number and Support Service Fee on the face of your check and mail to:

Your e-mail confirming the rejection should have had comments included that describes the reason for the rejection. For reference, nearly every single rejected filing is because of a defect in the pleading or a technical defect, such as
- Multiple PDFs attached as a single document
- A PDF containing embedded fonts
- Document wasn't readable
- The fee wasn't paid
- Case number and Parties didn't match the court's
- Wrong Case Type was selected
- Wrong County was picked

To have your address updated, there is a form that can be filled out on line and submitted. You will need to know your case number(s) for the clerk to update the case management system.
