Voices and Votes: Democracy in America

On display at the Madison County Administration Building, July 17–August 21, 2021

Based on a major exhibition at the National Museum of American History, this traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution includes historical photographs, archival video, interactive multimedia, and artifacts exploring who has the right to vote, the freedoms and responsibilities of citizenship, and whose voices are heard in American democracy. Exhibits of related Madison County history designed by Museum Department staff from the collections of the Madison County Historical Society will accompany the exhibit.

July 16 (Friday): Teacher workshop on the Voices and Votes exhibit

The workshop will be held in person from 9:00 a.m. to noon, in room #309 of the Madison County Administration Building. Contact the Regional Office of Education #41 at (618) 296-4530 to register. Space is limited to the first twelve applicants.

July 19 (Monday): Oh Freedom! Songs of the Civil Rights Movement
