HISTORY OF COMMITTEE AND HEALTH AREA
The Cancer Committee was formed in the late 1990s after one of our first community assessments. One of the first topics of the Cancer Committee was lung cancer which is directly associated with cigarette smoking. The Cancer Committee has acted as a Cancer Coalition for our Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) since 2000. The Cancer Committee was instrumental in hosting MCHD’s first drive-through colorectal cancer screening event. The Committee was active in Prostate Cancer awareness and many PSA screening events.
