"Southwestern Illinois Visiting Nurse Association (SIVNA) is proud to be celebrating our 100^th anniversary this year.  One hundred years ago SIVNA was founded as a result of the pandemic influenza epidemic.  Since then we have taken on many new challenges in our effort to provide care and services to our community.

Currently our Services for Seniors Care Coordination Unit (CCU) provides assessment and linkage services for those people over 60 in our seven county area.  We conduct our assessments in homes, hospitals, nursing homes and a variety of other places.  Our goal is to make sure that people are safe and independent as possible in their environment.  The assessment looks at an older person’s strengths and develops strategies that build on these strengths.  The assessment costs are provided by the Illinois Department on Aging.  Services might be private pay, state funded or donation based depending on the service.  Our CCU serves Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe, Randolph, St Clair and Washington counties.

Within our CCU we also house our Adult Protective Services (APS).  We are the designated Illinois Department on Aging APS provider.  We receive reports about abuse and neglect---physical, sexual, passive neglect, willful deprivation, confinement, financial and emotional.  In the near future, self-neglect is expected to be added to the reportable allegations.  Our case workers go out into the homes and investigate issues.   Their goal is to find workable solutions so that abuse ceases.

Our original mission was in home health provision.  We continue to provide skilled nursing, therapy services, medical social work services and home health aide service in our area.  All services are under the supervision of the patient’s physician.  In this division we provide home health services in parts of Clinton county, Madison county, Monroe county, parts of Randolph County, St Clair County, and parts of Washington County.  Fees are usually covered by Medicare, private insurances and Medicaid."

Centerstone is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit providers of community-based behavioral health care, offering a full range of mental health services, substance abuse treatment and intellectual and development disabilities services. Our skilled counselors, specialists, and peer coaches offer a variety of services and supports including – community-based services, family supports, counseling and therapy using evidence-based methods, and trauma-informed care. Centerstone provides short-term counseling to seniors over the age of 60 in Madison County. The goal of our Senior Services program is to assist with emotional adjustments related to aging, illness, bereavement, life events and care giving. We also provide counseling services to Madison and Bond county residents over the age of 18 caring for someone over the age of 60. "St. John’s Community Care provides affordable alternatives to residential care for adults living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, traumatic brain injuries, stroke, and other physical or intellectual impairments.  We also provide education and support to family caregivers.

• Adult Day Services with sites in Collinsville and Edwardsville.  Providing care weekdays from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm or whatever portion of that time is needed.  Includes a broad menu of activities; art therapy counseling; nursing oversight; lunch and afternoon snack; and lots of social interaction.  Fees may be covered by State of Illinois or VA.
• Home Services in Collinsville, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Troy, Granite City, Fairmont City, Maryville, Caseyville, and Fairview Heights.  Services include meal preparation, assistance with personal hygiene, housework, and medication reminders.  Fees may be covered by VA or IL Div. of Rehabilitation; others private pay.
• Family Caregiver Support – support groups, Savvy Caregiver classes, workshops, care consultations; no fees

"The mission of Collinsville Faith in Action is to put our faith into action by serving neighbors sixty years of age and older and persons with disabilities throughout our community with door-to-door, no-cost services to support their independence.

Collinsville Faith in Action offers three programs:
Volunteer Caregivers, Elder Connection, and Answers on Aging

Volunteer Caregivers
Our Volunteer Caregivers program is host to many services such as: transportation, shopping, companionship, respite for family, minor home repair, and seasonal yard maintenance.  Transportation is the biggest piece of this program, offering care receivers a warm smile and friendly conversation  as they receive a ride to  a medical appointment, grocery store, or other needed errand.

The majority of trips provided are for medical appointments to maintain health and wellbeing.  Care receivers and volunteers do NOT need to belong to a church or other faith community to provide or receive services.  Call 618-344-8080 to sign-up for services or become a volunteer.

 Elder Connection
Each month, a group of volunteers and care receivers get together to attend a social event.  This can be a trip to an eatery and/or places of interest.  The location is different each month, providing a variety of experiences and opportunities to ease isolation and loneliness for those we serve.  Call Nancy Kaprelian at 618-799-9085 for more information.

Answers on Aging
Navigating healthcare options and information can be a challenge.  Our Answers on Aging Specialist can help individuals apply for:  Medicare Benefits including Part D,  and the senior discount license plate program called Illinois Benefits Access. This program professional can also help seniors or family members better understand the health care system along with government entitlements.  Call 618-344-7788 to speak to a specialist."

Land of Lincoln Legal Aid

We assist persons 60 years or older, regardless of income.  Our service territory includes Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe, St. Clair, Randolph and Washington Counties.  However, the project staff target their services to those individuals with the greatest social and economic need. Additional factors for case acceptance decisions include but are not limited to current case priorities, staff resources available, areas of expertise, the time required to address the problem, and the likelihood of success on the merits. 

The project staff conducts home interviews for senior clients who are unable to come to the office or senior centers for assistance.
