District 21

John Janek represents Madison County in District 21, which includes Granite City and Choteau Township. He is serving his first term on the board after voters elected in November 2022.

John’s goals as a board member are to be an active representative for his district, control taxes in the county, ensure transparency in county government and help with Chouteau Township water/stormwater control. He is currently serving on the Building and Zoning, Finance, Government Operations and Education, Personnel and Labor Relations and Public Safety committees.

John brings with him experience after serving 14 years on the Granite City Planning and Zoning Board, including four years as chair, as well as chair of the Granite City Graphic Review Board. Following his graduation from Granite City High School John entered in the United States Air Force where he served four years in a medical supply unit.  After returning home he attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

John earned his license to sell real estate as well as became a licensed meat cutter, from which he retired from Meat Cutters Union Local 534 in Belleville. He is a licensed owner/landlord of Granite City properties as well as the retired owner of John’s Vending Service.

John is involved with various organizations in Granite City to include the Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He served as the PTA president at Niedringhaus School for three years and was a Granite City High School booster’s president.

He and his wife, Janice, are members of the Holy Family Catholic Church. They are also the parents of four children and 13 grandchildren.
