District 24

Charles “Skip” Schmidt is not new to serving in the community, but he is serving his first term on the County Board. He represents residents in District 24 in Edwardsville.

Prior to being elected in November 2022, Skip served as an Edwardsville Township trustee for more than five years.

His goal as a board member is trying to understand all the issues and work toward solving problems in a positive way. He believes public officials should listen and apply common sense to the decisions they make.

He serves on the board’s Central Services and Transportation committees.

Skip is a retired teacher and coach who holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in human services. He’s served on various boards and organizations to include Faith in Action, Edwardsville’s Recreation, Arts and Special Event’s (RASE) committee and Edwardsville Rotary.

His moto is that of a true Rotarian, “Service above self!” The City of Edwardsville honored Skip for his contributions to the community while serving as a volunteer with RASE for 14 years.

Skip is a patron of the arts and spent four years as the head usher at the Wildey Theatre and fundraising for Edwardsville High School Drama Thespians. He also enjoys golfing, trout fishing and making walking sticks.

He and his wife, Cynthia, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 2023 and are the parents of two daughters and four grandchildren.
