NEW MADISON COUNTY SUSTAINABILITY
COORDINATOR NAMED  
Fultz Previously Worked For The City Of Belleville

     EDWARDSVILLE, July 23, 2015 – Emily Fultz, formerly director of Economic Development, Planning & Zoning for the City of Belleville, has been selected by Madison County officials to fill the Sustainability Coordinator position in the Planning & Development department.

     Fultz fills the position vacated when Leah Dettmers was promoted to become the Madison County Economic Development Specialist. 

     In her new role, Fultz will manage the county’s sustainability plan, and will implement the strategies included in the plan.  She will also be involved in the county’s solid waste, recycling and grant writing programs, and will oversee departmental communications.  Fultz will work under the supervision of Planning & Development Administrator Matt Brandmeyer.

     “The sustainability program is not only an important element to the success of Madison County, but it generates revenue in excess of $3.5 million, funds which are utilized to issue sustainability grants to local governments and parks for infrastructure improvements and energy efficiency programs,” stated Madison County Chairman Alan J. Dunstan.  “I am confident that as Sustainability Coordinator, Emily (Fultz) will continue to build upon what is already a very successful program.”       

     Fultz brings nearly 10 years of public sector planning experience to Madison County.  In her previous position, Fultz oversaw planning and development programs and led the rewrite of Belleville’s award-winning comprehensive plan.  As a result of her work on the plan, in 2014 Fultz was awarded the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association’s Emerging Planner award. 

     “Madison County has long been recognized as one of the leaders in recycling and the preservation of our natural resources,” Brandmeyer said.   “Emily (Fultz) has the skills and knowledge to take what has been a very successful sustainability program to the next level.”

     Fultz also played a key role in the development of neighborhood programs, for which she developed engagement strategies and provided leadership training for neighborhood associations.  She brings extensive experience related sustainability initiatives, including her experience as co-chair of the St. Clair County Complete Streets Committee.  She served as the City’s liaison for OneSTL, the St. Louis Region’s sustainability plan and has spoken at state and local conferences on the subject of municipal codes and programs in conjunction with regional sustainability planning.

     Fultz is received bachelors and masters degrees in Geography from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  She serves on the executive board of the St. Louis Metropolitan Section of the American Planning Association and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
